Actually, what I'm about to describe is less a blast from the past, and more a 5 megaton Hydrogen bomb explosion. Maybe that's an unkosher thing to say in light of my last post, but...

I'm checking through my MySpace account (kinda like Friendstser, but cooler) and I notice that I have an e-mail waiting for me in my in-box. Usually, the e-mails I receive in MySpace are of a "there's a party planned for Friday" or "I'm so bored, what are you up to" variety. So imagine my total amazement when I see an e-mail from a person named Susie Q, which basically reads as follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------
paraphrase:
Hi. My name is Susie. I was bored and was looking through MySpace for people that I might know. I stumbled upon your name, and remembered that I knew a Matthew McKibben at WEST UNIVERSITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. I see your picture and can't tell if you're the same person, but see that we're both the same age and from Houston, Texas. If you're the same person, send me back a reply.
-----------------------------------------------------------

My jaw is still on the floor in amazement. I mean, I don't remember the names of the people I met last week, let alone the names of people I used to take elementary school naps with. I mean...WOW!

haha

Anyways, through her link in the e-mail, I checked out her MySpace bio and profile, and she has a lot of the same interests I do. This is mainly significant because had we all somehow managed to stay in West U, this long lost stranger probably would have been one of those "lifelong friends" that I knew all throughout my academic career. So many of my friends that stayed in one place through elementary, junior, and high school have these lifelong friends that are basically almost on the same intimate level as someone in your own family. Maybe in some parallel universe, we're all making plans to attend our 10 year ________ High School Reunion. As the saying goes, god only knows.

If there's an echelon of coolest inventions throughout history, I am now 100% sure that the internet would be somewhere near the top.

matt out
