Yesterday was the last day of my fast, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I didn't exercise as much as I may have wanted to, and god knows, I didn't do nearly as much reading and writing as I originally set out to do, but I did eat VERY healthfully.

Over the past 40+ days and nights, I went without fried foods, soda, red meat, and candy. Beer was also a part of my fast, though I did cheat by having a tasty Guinness on St. Patrick's Day as I watched "V for Vendetta" at the Alamo Drafthouse.

But otherwise, I ate really well, and even more importantly, I felt GREAT.

It wouldn't be a fast if I didn't learn anything, so let me see if I can list a few tid bits I picked up along the way:

-I didn't really miss red meat at all. I got kind of sick of chicken and salmon, but I never really craved a steak or anything like that. That's a good sign. I'm going to keep on refraining from red meat, maybe not on the same level as I did during my fast, but I'm thinking about going on a mini-fast; maybe something like 21 days or something.

-I didn't really miss soda either. I think I'm now almost completely weened off of soda, which I find a VERY good thing. Soda is just some nasty ass stuff, as tasty as it is. I may put myself on a 21 day fast with sodas as well, because god knows I love me some Dr. Pepper.

-I most definitely missed candy, but I'm not sure if that was because I wanted some candy, or more because the candy I wanted was Easter specific. Easter's a hard time to give up candy.

-I kinda missed beer, which I'm not quite sure how to read. I'm a big fan of moderation, so if I do start drinking beer again, it'll be in small doses, maybe only when I see a movie at "the Drafthouse."

-----------------------------------

I enjoyed my fast, so I think I'm going to start a new one. Maybe not so much as strict as the one I just got off of, but something to keep this health train going.

I'm all smiles... :-)
