2006-08-17 6:43 PM Primates are Destroying the Earth Read/Post Comments (3) |
One of the great parts of this past weekend was the conversation Anya, Luke, and I had as we watched a bunch of nature documentaries that Luke had ripped via Netflix.
As we watched "Be the Creature: Primates" we all came to the realization that humans are basically just primates. Chimpanzees and humans both laugh. We both play. We both act ashamed and have guilt. We both mourn. We both (at least some species of monkee) have sex for pleasure. The list goes on and on. I guess the main difference is that we're more "intelligent" than most primates, though I think a case could be made either way. But ultimately, the fact that primates are basically destroying the ecosystem, possibly making life on this planet uninhabitable, is almost hilarious...in one of those weird ways. But anyways. One of the cool things is that we think that humans are the only species on this planet capable of art. Once again proving that there really isn't much that separates primates and humans, here are some examples of some art made by non-human species. this first one was painted by an elephant. pretty amazing, huh? this next one is an ape's representation of a pepper. the ape that drew this heart, also signed the word for love after he drew it. this next one is an ape's drawing of a dinosaur. you can kind of make out the head at top, the four legs, and the long tail in the back. this next one is an ape's artistic representation of a bouquet of flowers. i really like this one. that's all for now. peace and love.
