I had my first round of "turncoat duty" today. If I had to choose a day to patrol the free speech area, the 5th Anniversary of Sept. 11th would not have been it. Thankfully, the day was somewhat uneventful. I say somewhat because there was a group who held a semi-large rally about, as they saw it, the US government being the orchestrators of 9/11/01.

I heard recently that 35% of the US population believes there was a US involved conspiracy on Sept. 11th. That's a pretty astonishing number. I hope I heard that incorrectly, or I hope that the survey had flawed wording, because I refuse to believe that the US government would go there. That's just too much. I can see murdering Kennedy (which I don't believe), or covering up Roswell (which I don't believe as well), but to suggest that the government would actively plan the destruction of the Pentagon, the Twin Towers, and the Capitol building is just...well, delusional.

1. The government isn't competent enough to pull something like September 11th off. See Hurricane Katrina or postwar planning.

2. We’ve all seen the footage of the hijackers getting onto the planes. Those faces belong to known terrorists. If the government was behind the attacks, how would they convince known terrorist organizations to loan us people who would willingly blow themselves up for United States purposes?

3. Even if the government somehow managed to pull all of this off, there’s the question of conscience. The US government attacking the World Trade Center and the Pentagon would require a massive amount of planning. This would be one of the single largest military maneuvers in the history of the world, involving air traffic control, people placing explosives inside the World Trade Center complex, people piloting jets, etc. And to think that not ONE person has come forward…There are some cold hearted people out there, but to think that not one person would have come forward by now is, as I said earlier, delusional.

One of the biggest problems with conspiracy theories is that they’re perpetuated by a bunch of novices. Kennedy’s head rocketing “back and to the left” does not necessarily demonstrate a frontal shot…but it sure does look that way to a novice. Explosions of debris shooting out of windows as a building falls does not necessarily demonstrate controlled demolition…but it sure does look that way to a novice.

Ugh…here I am ranting on conspiracy theories…better quit now.

More to come later…
