ghoulish friday five
*taken from my sister's site* And now... You wanna see something *really* scary? 1. Do you enjoy a good fright? I love a good fright, which makes it hard to pick movies to watch with Anya. Although I'm not entirely sure she's opposed to horror as much as she's opposed to watching the hard core slasher movies that I like to watch. I like a good fright, yet if I'm not in a good mood, I can fly off the handle. Just ask my friend Lorbach when he jumped out of the I-thought-to-be-vacant hallway of the III MEF Band Hall in Okinawa, Japan. I think I chased him out of the bandhall shouting obscenities and throwing chairs. 2. Scariest movie you've ever seen. Exorcist - Although I've seen it so many times, it doesn't really work for me as a scary movie. The Others - This Nicole Kidman starrer was one of the most intense, and brilliantly crafted, ghost story movies I've ever seen. There's this short black and white film that Luke and I saw one time, where a Howdy Doody like mannequin chased a woman around her apartment. It was INTENSE. Puppets, like clowns, are really scary, especially to kids. At one point, she narrowly escapes into her bathroom. After waiting in there for a few minutes and not hearing anything from the next room during that time, she looked beneath the crack of the door, only to see the lifeless face of the puppet staring back at her. That was crazy. Poltergeist - Used to be scary, and parts of it still are, but it's mostly a laugher now. We used to have clown puppets that hung in the hallway of my room. These puppets closely resembled the puppet that dragged the ET-Elliot knock off under the bed. I'm sending any and all psychiatric bills to my mom. 3. Bobbing for apples: choose one and discuss: a) Nothing scary about that! Good wholesome fun. b) Are you *kidding* me?!? The germs, the germs! I don't mind the germs so much as I hate the whole waterboarding feeling I get when I do it. It feels as if I'm going to choke on the water and drown in my Superman costume. 4. Real-life phobia. Heights. But it's a little better now than it used to be. I also don't like bugs and creepy crawly things, especially frogs and lizards. 5. Favorite "ghost story" We used to have some good ones in Okinawa. There was a rumor, which to this day I don't if it's true or untrue, which said that the old Okinawa bandhall used to be a hospital for wounded soldiers awaiting flight home from Korea and Vietnam. There were stories of nurses coming back to check the pulses of anyone who had to stay the night on "firewatch," which is basically security detail. You'd sometimes hear doors closing upstairs and things going on upstairs. Although I was too chicken to check, I'm sure that they were just Sgts and Cpls messing around with the new recruits. I say this because my friend Lorbach and I went into the band hall late one night and messed with one of our new Marines. ------------------------------------------- 1. Do you enjoy a good fright? 2.
