Why do I keep Pink Floyd's "The Division Bell" and "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" on my iPod and in my cd collection? They don't take up much space, so it's not like that's an issue. But every time a song from one of those albums comes up on my iTunes via the random option, I immediately fast forward to the next song.

Truth be told, I've never listened to either album completely. I've tried on a few different occasions, but Roger Waters-less Pink Floyd is ass. They just weren't very good in the 80's and 90's.

Despite never listening to either album (I'm attempting to listen to "the Division Bell" now), I can't quite bring myself to throw either album away. I have a hard time throwing away music. Part of that is due to status. I'll admit it, I always enjoy it when people remark at the quantity of my cd collection. It's one of my more vain qualities, I suppose.

But probably the more prevalent issue is me feeling like I need to own the complete catalogue of an artist. Maybe it's one of my more OCD qualities.

Yeah, I'm halfway through "The Division Bell" and I'm sticking with my original assessment that it's not very good. It's not quite as horrible as I tend to think it is, but...it's just so breathy. It sounds like Pink Floyd through a Phil Collins filter. Or it sounds like a soundtrack to a bad movie with Val Kilmer or something. It's the type of album that would be played live accompanied by an expansive laser show shooting out over the audience. I prefer Pink Floyd when they're playing live behind a brick wall to the laser show Floyd crap that came about when children of the 80's discovered pot.

I have a suspicion that I'd feel pretty okay about tossing away both of these albums. And while I'm at it, I could toss away a couple of Pantera and Prong cd's. And that bad Sinbad comedy album that I purchased way back when.

One thing I've been doing recently is deleting songs from my iTunes that I don't care for. I'd make a list of these songs, but they're literally so inconsequential that I don't remember what they are. I have been deleting some of the SHIT McCartney made in the 80's. I'm keeping stuff like "Silly Love Songs" and "My Love," but songs like "With a Little Luck" and "Goodnight Tonight." The 80's weren't kind to most 60's musicians. They were especially horrendous to McCartney. That thumping sound you heard in the 80's was Lennon rotating in his grave as if on a spigot.

I have a feeling that purging some of these songs and albums from my iTunes will actually improve my listening experience. I'll keep you all updated. I also have a feeling that deleting these songs from my iTunes and cd collection would be a somewhat liberating experience.
