New Year Resolutions

Yeah, I'm going to eat healthier, exercise more, read more books, and probably get more haircuts, but I wanted to make one resolution that's a little more "fun." We'll see how I do.

I know the AFI 100 Years, 100 Movies list is all kinds of problematic. And I know that the list is by no means the end all be all list of movies that one should see in their lifetime, but I wanted to make 2009 the year in which I finally got caught up with seeing many of the classics that any self-respecting movie buff should see. So why not take advantage of the Netflix Era and catch myself up on the movie classics:

(editor's note: I'm only going to watch the ones I haven't seen. Also, since this list came out in 1998 and another (updated, more Tolkien, less John Dunbar) list came out in 2008, I'm going to combine to the two. Oh, and I'm starting at the bottom and working my way up, so "Casablanca" will be the last one I see)

Casablanca
Gone with the Wind
Lawrence of Arabia
Singin' in the Rain
Sunset Boulevard
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Some Like It Hot
All About Eve
The African Queen
Chinatown
The Grapes of Wrath
The Maltese Falcon
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
It Happened One Night
Midnight Cowboy
The Best Years of Our Lives
Double Indemnity
Doctor Zhivago
North by Northwest
King Kong
The Birth of a Nation
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Philadelphia Story
From Here to Eternity
All Quiet on the Western Front
M*A*S*H
The Third Man
Rebel Without a Cause
Stagecoach
The Manchurian Candidate
An American in Paris
Shane
The French Connection
Ben-Hur
Wuthering Heights
The Gold Rush
City Lights
The Wild Bunch
Modern Times
Giant
Duck Soup
Mutiny on the Bounty
Frankenstein
Patton
The Jazz Singer
My Fair Lady
A Place in the Sun
The Apartment
Bringing Up Baby
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Yankee Doodle Dandy
The General
Intolerance
Nashville
Sullivan's Travels
Cabaret
Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?
In the Heat of the Night
Sunrise
A Night at the Opera
Swing Time
Sophie's Choice
The Last Picture Show
Blade Runner

If I'm counting correctly, that's 64 films. And what better way to kick this off then to watch "Blade Runner." Oh, and expect reviews of each one.
