Sorry the posting's been few and far between these days. For a few weeks there, I had all kinds of different activities occupying my time. But now things are back down to a gentle roar.

So what better way to kick start my blog back up than with a good ol' post on everyone's favorite show.

Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with season 5 of LOST. They've really hit a groove and are firing on nearly all of their cylinders. I bet, as the series gets closer and closer to its finish, the show will be firing on all its cylinders reminiscent of the engine room on the Titanic. It'll be a sight to behold.

But for now, the acting, writing, directing, and music are all top notch stuff.

- As I watched Locke in the donkey wheel room last night, I remarked to Anya that Locke is now my all-time favorite mythological character. That scene last night, with Christian Shepard was very reminiscent of the mythological story of Hercules cheating death and visiting Hades to bring back the smoke monster...named Cerberus...the same name given to the smoke monster on the blast door map. And I got to thinking that I'm still not entirely sure that Christian Shepard (or the ghost of him) is working with Jacob as is commonly suggested. I almost wonder if Christian getting Locke to turn the donkey wheel is his way of getting him off the island and out of his hair. Because as Ben said, those who turn the donkey wheel can never return. But the good guys have an ace up their sleeve and know that, through death, Locke can return to the island.

- I wasn't a big fan of Charlotte originally, but she really grew on me. I was a bit sad to see her go. LOST has a way of making annoying characters appealing right as they're getting ready to die. But I absolutely LOVED the scene last night where Charlotte's toggling back and forth between here and some distant point in the past. And I absolutely got creeped out when she remembered that the crazed man who told her not to come back to the island was actually Daniel Faraday. That, my friends, is a LOST moment. No other show can pull off shit like that.

- Daniel Faraday is one of my favorite characters on the show. I love me some Sun/Jin, Rose/Bernard, Kate, and Sayid, but this show really revolves around just a handful of characters. And I love that they've successfully added to that list with Daniel Faraday. Part of that has to do with Jeremy Davies' acting, but the part is written so well.

- They've really given Sawyer a lot to work with this year. Last year was kind of an off year for James Ford, but they've really given him some good material.

- I still find myself not entirely interested in what's going on with the Oceanic 6. The longer they're off the island, the less interesting they become. I hope they make it back to the island soon so that we can stop flashing back to Los Angeles when something infinitely more interesting than Hurley's parental situation is happening on the island.

- I also like that they're in full-on answer mode. And when they're not giving answers, they're setting up the framework to give more answers. Its good stuff, if you ask me.

That's all I have for now. I accidentally got my hopes up that next week's episode was a Locke episode, but that's the week following. But hopefully they still give a lot of goodies away in next week's episode.

After what I felt was an okay, not great season 4, it's good to see that LOST is officially back.

Matt
