Knot

It was knotted up inside me like a cancer in my throat. My insides were twisted up with it, as were the valves of my heart. Then a soft hand undid the coils, un-looped the loops with care not to snag, and released the tightness down in the dark. I lay in a cooling lake of tears, the rising steam clouding my eyes. I closed them and fell into a shadow more gentle.
