Saw Hair last night; it's playing in Lexington's Arboretum (Summerfest) through the weekend. It was a great evening - the weather was perfect, Socrates and his theatre chums pulled together a terrific picnic, and the show was well-produced and well-staged. Not all the voices were strong (to be expected in a cast that ranged from Vegas pros and high school kids), but there were some standouts -- Britnny Congleton (Sheila) caught everyone's attention in my group, Ellie Todd has a huge yet sweet voice for a high school sophomore, and when Congleton and Djuan Keila Trent (Dionne) sang together, the beauty of it sent chills down my spine.
The crowd was fun -- lots of visiting among my companions (most of whom have been active in Kentucky theatre for years), plus a number of people who had come of age in the 60s and/or seen the original production -- and when the cast launched, the energy in the crowd shot WAY up, and suddenly there were dozens of people rockin' out to "Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair / Flow it, show it..." More later (when I'm not about to get kicked out of the library...). Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
