A while back, in response to a mention of Pirkei Avot 2:21, Paula dreamed aloud of hearing Sweet Honey in the Rock sing a setting of that text interspersed with "Step by step the longest march."

So, ah, here's a setting...

Paula, this is the "in time for your birthday" edition. The plan is (someday...) to add two more vocal lines and nudge various chords closer to a Sweet Honey sound. And then perhaps to come up with an all-alto version that I can record for you. :-)

You are an inspiration -- not always this directly, but in countless other often-uncountable ways -- and I cherish both your friendship and encouragement. Here's wishing you your best year yet.
