Due to some recent dental work, I'm confined to bland, soft foods at the moment. I'm enjoying being enough of a cook (and with enough of a pantry) to come up with some decent ways to satisfy my various cravings:
Cherry-citrus jello (made with a store-brand can of Princess Anne cherries purchased on a whim, plus an aging lemon and lime the BYM had bought ages ago and never gotten around to using)
Zucchini-onion soup, with chicken stock from a couple weeks ago. Notes to self: (1) Next time you freeze stock in gallon bags, make sure they freeze flat. Folds are a royal nuisance. (2) Next time you run the uber-blender, make extra-sure the power switch is on "variable" instead of "high." Cleaning soup off the walls and cabinet is not your idea of a good time, no matter how happy it makes the dog.
Pecan pesto with extra-soft rice (i.e., rice cooked with extra water. There's probably an official gourmet term for it, but I'm too tired to ransack my brain for it).
Iced tea brewed from a red blend called "Fall in Love" that the BYM picked up at Mariage Freres. Good unsweetened, though I've poured some glasses over a spoonful of Cahill saguaro honey (a gift from my mother-in-law)
Fried or scrambled eggs - the eggs from our kitchen contractor, who also happens to raise chickens
Rapunzel chocolate-hazelnut butter(carried by Whole Foods; organic alternative to Nutella; see here and here if you're unfamiliar with the connection between many brands of chocolate and child exploitation). Eaten straight out of the jar. :-)
