At a neighborhood store, I tell the cashier, "Thank you, sir," as he hands me my change and receipt. He answers, smiling, "No need to call me Sir - that's my dog's name."

The snapshots don't capture how quiet bubbles appear while it steeps, or the BYM's appalled, raised-voice speculation upon seeing the flower-corpse floating in a dirty pan the following morning: "What... that... that's not a plant! Something horrible happened here, did it not?" Just outside one of my kitchen windows:
