[Subject line from Thomas Lynch's Refusing at Fifty-Two to Write Sonnets.]
Today was a very low-key, laid-back day for me and the BYM after a happy, hectic week celebrating a friend's wedding here in Tel Aviv. We slept in, walked to Chinky Beach Bar for shakshuka, and then returned to the guesthouse, where I went back to sleep and the BYM did laundry. A bit later, I ran an errand that took me through part of the nearby shuq (Carmel Market), and I came back with a ten-shekel tub of pomegranate seeds (around a pint) that our hosts pronounced "very sweet." (A 12 oz cup of fresh-squeezed pomegranate juice runs around 10 NIS as well, at least on Dizengof Street.) Later, we walked up Rehov Ben Yehuda, stopping at "Iceberg" for water and gelato (tangerine-basil, lychee-pecan-ginger, chocolate-orange, and lemon-mint), up to about Yermiahu, and then we walked back south along Dizingof, stopping at the CafeCafe in the mall. Then a quiet evening of sorting photos and writing notes, with a bit of junk food (some sort of heart-shaped corn chip). Eep, gotta go. More later!
