2009-12-30 12:29 AM on publications and pennies Read/Post Comments (0) |
As it turns out, I actually have quite a few Rhysling-eligible poems this year. (The "actually" is because last year I had only one poem that could be considered spec.) I have gathered them together into a Word doc that you can download from my website ("you" being both SFPA members and people who just want to (re)read the poems for the heck of it).
I found it helpful last year when other poets offered similar compilations - plus, as a year-end exercise, it was nice to remind myself that 2009 wasn't all that shabby, publication-wise: 2 poems with Blood Pudding Press, 2 at qarrtsiluni, 2 cinquains at AMAZE, 2 in the SFPA contest anthology, 7 poems at Dead Mule, 2 sold to My Poem Rocks, 1 haiku in a Croatian-English anthology, 1 poem in the 2010 San Gabriel Valley Poetry Calendar, and 9 micro-poems/very short stories at 7x20. Total, that adds up to 16 pieces over 140 characters long, and 12 tweet-sized ones (my not-yet-up-to-date bibliography is here); also, there were 3 podcasts (2 at qarrtsiluni and 1 at the SFPA Halloween reading), 3 award nominations, and a reprint request for 3 pieces for an anthology. And, there are new pieces scheduled to appear Strange Horizons, microcosms, 7x20, and elsewhere. (In all honesty, I've been more than a bit mopey lately over what-all I didn't get done this year, so shameless self-promotion aside, this is me doing a "hey, go me!" jitterbug around the dining room table before getting back to work.) Speaking of the dining room table, tonight I finally buckled down to making my Penny Experiment contribution (instead of merely thinking about it). I was assigned the number "15," which I'd requested because it's a point value in tennis. Snapshots and details of the card-making process are here. There are also several current opportunities to participate, which I think some of you might find worth your time: * The Penny for Your Thoughts book project (leaving an almost-blank book in a cafe, to be completed by strangers and sent back to PE Central); book 1 was launched into the wild yesterday) * printing Internet coupons and mailing them to the organizer so he can make the most out of each shopping trip for food to donate ($.42 for $62.67 in groceries!)
