...but before I head to the dryer, a piecemeal con report.
Joanne's writeup is here, and we took some photos:
The sessions I attended on my own were on the possibility of creating black holes with the LHC, which was entertaining enough (especially the segment during the Q&A that the presenter ended with "...and that's why Hawking hasn't won a Nobel Prize yet") and on robotics programming (which devolved into a loud debate between two professors over theoretical vs. applied experimental frameworks). There was also plenty of good conversation: Joanne and I can talk shop non-stop for hours (and did -- along with discussing door-eating bunnies, healthcare bureaucracies, and other areas of expertise and/or preoccupation); in addition to being longtime SF/F editors and fans, the Kopaska-Merkels are also active Unitarian Universalists, Sheila teaches middle school art teacher, and they love to travel, so we talked about publications, politics, Sunday school, public education, France, and Finland over oatmeal bread and Hooligan's (a college-area joint with sweet mint tea, beef kebabs, and other tasty offerings), a takeout feast from Swen Chinese, and breakfast at IHOP. So, a good time, both personally and professionally. And now it's time to get those towels into the dryer! Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
