Today's subject line comes from Jean Toomer's "Storm Ending," which appeared in my in-box earlier this week as Hadara Bar-Nadav's contribution to Poetry Daily's annual series of "poets' picks." The poem begins, "Thunder blossoms gorgeously above our heads" -- and, indeed, last night was yet another night among the many nights this spring that my city has been on guard for severe weather.

I was going to devote this entry to listing some of the other poems on the tabs currently open in my browser, but I just found out (also via PD) that Jeanne Leiby died yesterday (didn't know her personally, but I've enjoyed Southern Review when I've picked it up), and in looking that up, learned that Tim Hetherington was killed today. I spent several months last year recording Sebastian Junger's War for the Nashville Talking Library; Junger's description of working with Hetherington is quoted at length in today's LA Times, and there is another tribute to him by Elizabeth Dickinson at Foreign Copy.
