After a week of shredding my brain against the Must Do list, it was nice to spend yesterday helping out on a farm. I weeded and washed "spring mix," harvested oak leaf lettuce and swiss chard, unrolled and untangled drip tape, sprinkled fertilizer pellets over two newly tilled rows, and planted tomato seedlings. In return, I was fed a very nice salad for lunch and took home sacks of beets, radishes, greens, and scallions. So, I spent most of last night preparing the greens for storage and roasting beets for today's lunch,a belated birthday meal for my favorite 89-year-old. I picked up challah and cupcakes from Sweet 16th, and cooked cioppino, beet and orange salad, and eggs stuffed with beet greens and parmesan: Tonight there was more rinsing and steaming and shredding of greens, this time for quiches: In other news, there are two new tweet-sized pieces up at PicFic (Aging Dog and Taking Aim), and the Global Education Center has scheduled Uphook Press for another reading in Nashville on January 20, 2012 (this time with two more poets, and one will hope for less forbidding weather).
