2003-04-12 12:30 AM On the Looting I was terrified by the scenes from Baghdad. I can understand looting the government buildings--but hospitals where their own people are dying? I was terrified by the scenes from Baghdad. I can understand looting the government buildings--but hospitals where their own people are dying?
But then, the sad truth is, I guess, that no matter the conditions, a certain percentage of the population--any population--will be born to be assholes, morons or just simply evil. How many? One in a hundred? One in a thousand? How many does it take to destroy a city? If one in a hundred people is an asshole (which may be conservative), that would give a two-million city, like Baghdad, 20,000 assholes. If one person in a thousand is truly evil, that gives them two thousand of those. How many Hitlers are walking down our streets? How many Stalins or Pol Pots, waiting for the right moment to poke out their ugly head and spread their venom? Hitler wasn’t the fruit of his times.
