2003-04-17 4:18 PM Finding My Voice I had minor breakdown after the events of last weekend. And each time I turned on the TV to get distracted I only got more bloodshed and pointless suffering. Children dying in hospitals looted by their compatriots, unprotected by their “liberators.” Oh, well. What else is new?
Haven’t touched writing since vacation. Some twitching here and there; that’s all. I posted Patterns for next week’s focus chat. Got three reviews so far, and they seem to follow the same pattern as before--those who like the plot want a solution; those who appreciate the open-endedness of it just don’t fall in love with the plot. Which maybe my problem in general. Doesn’t mean I don’t have loads to learn still--I do. But one of the things I need to find most of all is my target audience. My voice. Style-wise, I tend to like more sophisticated, poetic prose style with focus on individual experience. But my plots though are relatively simple--maybe not good guys vs. bad guys but almost that. I still think I can change the world with my writing, lol! In very general terms, I’d like the style of fantasy combined with sf plots. Haven’t managed that yet, though. Come to think about it, that might precisely be my voice. And I’m sure there are readers out there interested in this type of writing. If I do it well. If. But that part is up to me, isn’t it? OK, back to the drawing board. Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
