Halfway House

Okay, then. I've been writing all morning, since about 7:30, though the pets woke me at 4:30 or so and I couldn't get back to sleep. So I got my surfing and misc. crap out of the way in order to free up all my time today while Elizabeth's out of town. Today, I write. All day.

And so far, it's going quite well. I've got less than two chapters to write, and I've already thrown down over 4,000 of the roughest words known to man.

I'm having a frickin' ball!

I really hit my stride around my third cup of coffee, when I was passing through the Epilogue and got stuck there, fleshing out the various sections until it was completely drafted. And I really like how it ends. It's awesome, if I say so myself! ;)

I may have to just make it chapter 25 instead of an epilogue, though, even if it throws off my structure (I have 3 sections of 8 chapters each, set off by one interlude each, a prologue and an epilog, in case you were curious). I can make 'em all chapters if I wanna later. It's fun to mess with structure. It puts off having to WRITE. Sort of like writing a journal entry, blathering on and on when I should be finishing up. Talk atcha later!

Oh yeah, if you want to, you can vote for my story "Goddamn Redneck Surfer Zombies from The Book of More Flesh (Eden Studios publishing), in the upcoming Origins Awards for best gaming-related short fiction. You can even vote online, but I think it's due on January 15th. If you can't find a copy of the anthology, email me and I'll email you a copy of the story. See ya!

Today's Quote:
A greenish-yellow ball hung in the black field of stars, with a thin band encircling it. The band was made up of rocks that looked tiny from the distance, but were probably close to the size of Mount Everest, Skin guessed. Clouds covered most of the planet, but as the camera zoomed even closer, a spot in the northern half of the planet cleared, and dark black land came into focus.

This was another world, Skin thought. He laughed out loud in surprise, and then swallowed hard, wanting to cry. It felt like too much information, especially smelling the mud and salt smell of the three aliens squatting not even five feet from him. Tialli, Oyalla’s mother, winked all three of her eyes in succession at Skin and then gave him a smile. Skin inclined his head, trying his best to imitate the bow that Awoyana had first given him a year ago in November.

“Welcome home,” Skin said to her, inside his head.
