2003-02-16 7:53 PM Ice, Ice baby! As the ice and sleet accumulate outside our house, slicking the roads and coating the world in frozen slipperiness, Elizabeth and I hung out today in front of the fire and worked, worked, worked.
She has a couple major papers and projects to finish up this semester, all long-term stuff, which is a real pain -- it just hangs over her head, you know? And I spent the day revising the snot over the Shadow Wolf story I'm working on with Derek. I have to say, I got some great comments from Scott, Jason, and Alex from my writing group, as well as the great comments from Derek's group. I was a little worried about the story at the start of the day, thinking it may have been a lost cause, but now I know it's definitely going to work, and it could be the best story yet. Great action and a cool, cool setting. I also finished revising the superhero story, and it's pretty close to be completely done. And I feel really good about it! It's fun, fast-paced, and has a really nice theme (that everyone can be a hero, and everyone has special powers inside of them). Next up -- the Blackbeard novel! Wahoo! I'm finally on top of my various projects, at last. Though I've gotten a little bit distracted, in a good way, reading some of the various essays out there written by RatBastards Alan, Barth, and Chris. Good stuff there, and more food for thought on the whole "movement" thing. I also read Carol Emshwiller's superhero story "Grandma" and just loved it. Her stuff is consistently quirky and cool and completely original. Later! Now Playing: Back Porch Music, WUNC Now Reading: Misc. stories Stories out to Publishers: 17 Today's Words: 0 (all editing and revising!) Words for '03: 30,800 Today's Quote: “But,” Violet said, back at her normal size, “why did you come here, then?” “To help you realize your powers, of course. The world always needs more heroes. That’s why I picked the fight with those vampire boys at the Needle -- to give Catherine a little nudge. All of us have some sort of special power, and we just need the right motivation to get it started." Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
