This is cool. Thanks to a recommendation from N.C. State professor and SF writer John Kessel, I'm going to be teaching a two-week class for 4th-8th graders as part of the Young Writers Workshop!!

The focus is going to be on SF and fantasy, and I'm quite excited. I'm looking forward to reading what these kids come up with as much as talking to them about the nuts and bolts of writing. I'm already thinking about what sorts of activities I can have them do -- I only have them for 65 minutes, for 10 classes total.

It'll mean long days for me -- I checked with my manager, and she said it would be okay for me to come in early to work and leave early, and make up my missing hours by working at home -- but it'll be worth it. We'll see what the next generation of spec-fic writers has to offer... I'll keep ya posted!
