2003-08-15 12:44 PM Connells, conservatives, and completions... So the Connells concert was pretty fun in spite of the lingering humidity after yet ANOTHER freakin' rainstorm here in Raleigh -- it's been a daily thing for the past month. The guys were showing their age a bit; that is, they looked about my age. Ouch. And our friend Clarke told Elizabeth and me that the lead singer was now selling real estate in the area, and he looked like he just got back from showing a house in his khakis, long-sleeved button-down and glasses. Maybe that's why the concert didn't get started 'til 8:30.
The music was good, if a bit uninspired. If you hadn't heard the songs before, they probably would've all blended together with the samey guitar riffs and garbled lyrics. But they opened up with a song about dump trucks by Doug MacMillan's son, so they're cool. What was annoying about the night were the other people there. Holy shit, what a bunch of conservative-looking people, all trying to get someone's number or hook up -- like a pack of wolves in Gap clothing. The concert was held outside the very cool NC Museum of Art here in Raleigh, and we got seats up close to the band, thinking we were so smart for getting their early. Turns out the concert is hosted by some museum group that works as a sort of "get-to-know-you" group for 20-40 something. Yeah. It was a major meat-market scene, with 3/4 of the crowd milling around the damn "bar" where they were selling Miller Genuine Draft and other crappy beer in a can along with some cheap-ass wine (and of course you couldn't pay THERE, you had to walk over to the front area and get tickets, one for beer, one for wine). Lots of overdressed women wearing outfits one size too tight for them, and balding guys wearing golf shirts and boat shoes. And all of them checking everyone out, I guess trying to hook up. We decided that this group is where fraternity and sorority people go after they graduate and get marketing jobs. Anyway, the funny part was that the lead singer noticed that most of the crowd wasn't even paying attention to his band, so he made shit out of them most of the night. I'd buy a house from this guy. And now, the plan is to help our IT guys move our servers tonight, then go hang out with Lizzie and Clarke for Clarke's b-day, and then get some work done on the Wannoshay novel this weekend. Yes, I finally finished the draft of my pesky Exquisite Corpuscle story. It ain't perfect, but it's finished. For now... Later! Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
