Well, I was supposed to wait until we could tell a couple other friends face-to-face about it, but I can't wait any longer! (Sorry!)

This year is going to be quite an interesting one, now, because right around December 9th of this year, Elizabeth and I should be welcoming into the world our first baby! Yep, it's official. I'm gonna be a dad.

That is one of the most exciting and scary sentences I've ever written.

Elizabeth and I are really excited about this, as we've been planning on having kids "soon" for the past couple of years. Now that she's out of grad school, and just got on full-time at WakeMed (woo-hoo!), and I have a good job and we're making some progress against our piles of debt, we couldn't see any reason to wait any longer.

So now the countdown has begun – our "Jasperito" is at almost 7 weeks, with only 33 weeks to go. Man! I can't believe it.

And even though I never thought I'd be the kind of person to do this sort of thing, here's a sneak peek at our young 'un, from yesterday's ultrasound:


Right now the baby is about one centimeter in length (you have to look between the two plus signs to see him or her). We got to see the baby's heart beating yesterday. That was very cool. And very freaky! Go Jasperito, go!!!
