This probably won't come as a surprise to anyone...

...But I'm going to do a Novel Dare of sorts in the upcoming months. I have the baseball novel, The All Nations Team (click on over and check out the cool photo I found when I was doing my research) almost outlined out -- 10 chapters so far, spanning from 1915 to 1920, during the height of the team's existence and continuing up until after its demise. I'm pretty pumped up about it, and want to get cracking on the writing. Now.

But I have some more odds and ends to add to the outline, mostly character bits and oddments, plus I wanted to watch a couple baseball flicks to see how they're structured. And I've got some research on the era itself to do. But for the most part, I can see the story itself taking shape, and it's a cool feeling.

So if you've got a novel idea sitting around and want to join in the madness, let me know in the Comments section, or drop a note off at the Night Shades Topic I set up for the Novel Dare. The way I figure it, to get a 90,000-word novel, you'd need to hit about 6 double-spaced pages a day for the next 60 or so days. That's doable, if you have a good idea of where you're novel's going.

Just drop by here each day once the Dare kicks off (I'm cheating and starting on Monday, if I get my act together) and let us know how your writing day went.

If all goes according to plan (and that would be quite amazing), I should have a good draft of a novel to take to the upcoming Oregon Coast Workshop's Novel Weekend in mid-September, led by Dean Wesley Smith. They'd need the whole novel by the first week or so of August. So there's my deadline.

I may crash and burn on this endeavor, but hell, at least I tried, you know? That's always worth something, at least to me. Later!

Now Playing:
