Pickin' and Readin' and Crashin'

In an attempt to both entertain my 3-and-a-half-month-old son and challenge myself, I pulled out the guitar tonight for the first time in probably 2 years. I really want Drew to grow up in a house filled with music instead of the drone of the TV and video games, and this is all part of yet another one of my Master Plans.

The goal is to learn the guitar so I can teach him when he's young, and then I can get me a Casio and relearn how to play piano. I hate that I never kept up with music after high school band. I want to keep adding to my skills, and making music is a nice change of pace from sitting in front of a computer. It's even better now that I have an audience!

A captive audience, I might add -- I plopped Drew in his bouncey seat and strapped him in as I learned E, F, and G on the first string, then B, C, and D on the next string. He was subjected to the "E E E F F F G G G Song" for a while, and he hardly even cried! I was actually able to get through two "lessons" before he got antsy.

Then we went out and read about Olivia the pig -- I figured out how to get him involved in the book, and that's for us both to lie on our backs on a blanket, and I hold the book above us as I read. Drew digs on the pictures and coos and cackles. It's quite cool. He made it through all of Olivia before I had to rock and roll him off to bed.

Now he and his mom are both crashed out and I plan on reading -- reading!!! -- for an hour or so before hitting the hay myself. This dad stuff ain't so bad. I quite like it! Later...
