Apple Fun

I stayed up way too late messing with the new shiny iMac last night, and then spent my writing time this morning messing around with the computer some more. I'm not doing so well on meeting my dream today -- see Jenn's entry (and Dayle's too, for starting it all) for an awesome, awesome quote from astronaut Alan Bean. Thanks, Jenn and Dayle!

Actually, I lied -- I did update my excerpt page for the baseball novel, using all the new stuff I came up with this week. And I'm still polishing off those opening three chapters, getting them ready to send off to an agent. But I want to use the new iMac to send off the query, not my crappy old Windows box. I'm thinking Blinky will give me luck.

I think I just named my iMac. Someone stop me.

I'm not 100% sure about this new computer -- I think it'll be awesome in the long run, but I've become SO enmeshed into the Windows operating system that little things are frustrating me about the Apple OS. I like that little button that lets me jump right to the Windows Desktop, for instance. And file management in Windows is much more intuitive, at least that's how it feels so far. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

And don't get me started about the keyboard and mouse -- those suckers seem really un-ergonomic to me. But I'm getting used to it, I think. I hope.

Oh, and finally, we got to go to a place called Frankie's today for work -- it's one of those places with go-carts, video games, and laser tag. I got to do some batting practice, and it was awesome, though my arms are gonna hurt in the morning. I also got to play laser tag for the first time (stressful and confusing, but fun) and did this incomprehensible dancing video game with a co-worker that I'm still trying to figure exactly what happened. Oh, I feel old.

This weekend -- more Apple fun and a Tar Heel football game, and some much-needed time with Elizabeth and Drew. And maybe some writin' and revisin'... Later!
