Opening and Closing Doors

In an interesting twist, the startup company I was working for until less than two months ago apparently closed up shop yesterday. Yikes! Nobody was given any notice at all. Just -- the end. Ouch.

Yes, I can't tell you how relieved I am to have gotten out while I still could, and I even got a week off before starting the new job. It would've really sucked to be unemployed when our little guy arrived in November!

It's sad though, because it was a great experience, working there, being a one-man tech-writing department, making all the relevant documentation decisions without having to go through a committee. I learned a lot, and I also realized my ten years of experience doing this stuff is actually worth something. Though I have to admit, my last three months there, when I was in charge of Support, were pretty hellish... Nuff said.

So I've got a little "press release" put together for my Wannoshay novel, and I'm going to be mailing out the ARCs tomorrow. Lots of envelope stuffing and address hunting in my future. Then I need to start bugging area bookstores. Not looking forward to that.

And I still haven't figured out what I'm going to work on, writing-wise, after I get this promotional stuff done. I actualy haven't had a free moment to even think about it. More on that, later...
