2005-10-17 10:44 AM Monday, Monday Not much to say today, so I thought I'd sing the praises of the Mamas and the Papas for a second. I'm a fan of almost any group with tight vocal harmonies, and this group does that along with having a distinctive feel. I wasn't a big fan of Cass's voice in her solo career but in the group they all just fit perfectly.
Supposedly Cass was rejected as a potential group member initially until she fell and hit her head and supposedly gained some extra range from it. Sounds weird so this may be urban legend. Sounds like the home life wasn't too good with the Phillips. MacKenzie (from One Day at a Time)(one of the daughters of John and I believe Michelle [also in the group] says drugs were sitting out at the parties at home and she helped herself when she was still very young. Did you know one of Phillip's other daughters with Michelle, Chynna, was part of Wilson Phillips ("Hold On") and the Wilson part of the group were Brian Wilson's daughters (of the Beach Boys). And also, John was the initial writer of the only Beach Boys hit of the later years: Kokomo. Anyway, I guess musical harmony was in the genes, and they put it to good use.
