Catching a wave

Catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world -- The Beach Boys

Was having an exchange with RandomThoughts a few posts back, and it prompted this thought:

Maybe surfing is a pretty good analogy for most of the stuff in our lives, we catch a wave, ride it out and then have to paddle back out and risk it again, and sometimes we crash into the rocks, and sometimes we make it to the shore. But the shore isn't the goal, riding the waves is, so we go back again, as soon as we can. We don't arrive anywhere. We just hope to be able to catch more waves with more experience and crash less/ride them out longer. It isn't so much mastering something as becoming sensitive to each particular one, being able to feel it and work with it, work together with it -- more like harmony.
