2005-09-16 7:11 PM Open a window, your love's suffocating me Mood: Semi drunk? Read/Post Comments (5) |
So I'm drunk. Well, kinda. It's really all of my mom's fault. Well, and my sister's. Okay, it's EVERYbody's fault, for that matter.
It all started last night when my mom and I had "the talk." (not the birds the bees, kids - I'm not quite sure, in my Catholic upbringing, that I ever had that talk with my parents. This shocks none of you, I'm sure.) No, we had the talk that any single, smart, independent, yet unemployed 26-year-old woman who's lived in a city and now lives with her parents, dreads. The monthly expenses talk. Thankfully, I've been blessed with parents who, although they don't have much money, are determined to spend whatever they have on making sure their children get good educations, are never homeless and live happy lives. But....before we get all student-council about this, let's remind the audience that with that love, that encompassing-near-suffocating love comes the always-accepted offer of living back at home rent-free until a job comes along. Which brings us to last night's talk. Basically, my mom and I worked out what I'll be spending in student loans each month, now Northwestern tacked onto Notre Dame. And then came the offer of financial help that every single, smart, independent, yet unemployed 26-year-old woman who's humble and loves her parents, DREADS but begrudgingly accepts. Hence, the red wine. So, ya know, some people choose to spend nearly $80K on fancy cars, houses, vacations. No, I decide to spend it on something I'll never see: my brain. And then, years later, I'm sending out materials for jobs in random places like Nantucket, Mass. Even that one was filled. Hence, the red wine. OH...and tomorrow's the shower. The little day, before the crazy night, before the big day, for my sister. Gonna be full of pastel-colored, blender-wielding, ooohing-aaahhing nutty women. Oh, AND my grandmother. Thankfully, you know what else will be there? WINE Stay tuned, friends... Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
