2010-02-28 9:13 AM Paying The Piper Of course, the bane of any freelance existence -- TAXES.
I officially started full-time freelance work in 2008. Yes, this would be forever known in Netta History as One Of The Suckiest of All Suckage Years...except for Muffin. He was the high point of the decade, can you dig it. Anyway, I did work at the hotels that year, so even the paltry amount I was able to earn freelancing was balanced out, tax-wise. I have yet to file, but they owe me money so I'm not worried about it. I was a little shocked when I added up what I made in 2009. Still a paltry amount, still not what I need to actually live, but it was twice what I made in '08. Not bad for the second year full-timing it. As a matter of fact, I'm rather pleased except for the fact Uncle Sam is going to want a piece of me, and while it won't be a big piece to him, it will be huge to me. But, that's okay. So, yeah. I'm doing it. I'm earning a living from writing that's big enough to register with the tax department. That's pretty funny. And pretty cool. What a long haul. I'm not complaining because this is what I love to do. It's not easy, it doesn't have a lot of the perks a "regular" job has, sometimes it sucks ass when you're up against a deadline and you have digestive problems, or you've been up all night with the sickies and have had no sleep...but for the most part it totally rocks and I don't want to ever have to do anything else. Even this Project That Will Not Die. *sigh* Which reminds me. I gotta get on it. **** Your video of the day: From one of my favorite albums of All Time. There's not a cut I don't like. People say I'm crazy I got these diamonds on the soles of my shoes, yeah But that's one way to lose these walking blues... Diamonds on the soles of my shoes.
