are you interested in taking part in a giant human-sized chess game played on a chess board made of the city of san francisco?

brooklyn-based artist sharilyn neidhardt (dbasr@yahoo.com) is looking to stage a second human chess game in san francisco this october. the first game took place in may on the lower east side of manhattan, and was covered by the village voice, the new york times, and several international publications.

more about the first game can be located here: http://mysite.verizon.net/johnnieutah/chess/LESchessmain.html

the mechanics of the project are simple. each participant plays the role of a human chess piece. the board is eight square blocks of the mission district in san francisco (15th to 22nd st, and sanchez to folsom st). in dolores park, two expert players will be playing a game of chess. after each move, the appropriate piece will be called via cellphone and given instructions on how to move.

to participate, you must have a working cellphone with reliable service. SMS and other wireless messaging devices may also be eligible. you must be free for about 3 hours on saturday october 18. costuming appropriate to your piece is encouraged, as is camping it up as much as humanly possible.

if you have even a shred of interest in this event, please email sharilyn at dbasr@yahoo.com . in addition to pieces, we will need help in documenting and coordinating the game. if you are yourself or know of an expert-level player interested in playing the master game, please email me.

a map of the board can be found here: http://mysite.verizon.net/johnnieutah/chess/sfchessmain.html
