27th November 2003 Activate:3 Player Chess launched with the other Low-fi commissions for 2003 at Baltic, Gateshead. Click images to view early pictures- more to follow.

Activate:3 Player Chess
During the evening we were joined by 5 people playing online from remote locations. At least 10 games were played between visitors to the Baltic and remote players with the score between pawns and ruling pieces remaining evenly spread. All players quickly overcame their initial inhibitions (mainly to do with not being 'good enough' chess players) and began to understand and enjoy the political subversions inherent in the new game.

Vertical Scroll by Cavan Convery
'Vertical Scroll allows you to navigate a physical scroll over the internet by winding it backwards and forwards in front of a webcam. Inspired by the ancient writings of the Near East, the document depicts recent events using hieroglyphics and illuminations, at times readily decipherable, at times as aarcane as the rhetoric they represent.'- low-fi press release

Simpletext by Jonah Brucker-Cohen, Tim Redfern

'SimpleTEXT is a collaborative audio/visual public performance that relies on audience participation through input from their mobile phones. The project focuses on connecting people in shared spaces by attempting to merge distributed devices with creative and collaborative experience.'- low-fi press release
