The Red Cunt Hair or RCH is a non-specific small unit of measure, used by engineers. This tongue in cheek term is based on the concept of a pubic hair being of a small diameter. It can be used to describe a minor adjustment necessary, and is akin to terms such as 'a tad', 'a smidgen', etc.

It is thought to have originated in the late 1950s, as military slang.

As red hair is generally more coarse than other hues, the small measurement of a single cunt hair can be further refined by declaring the necessary amount to be either the red or blonde variety - an RCH thus being a slightly greater, but still very small, measure.

The acronym 'RCH' can be used on engineering documents without explicitly declaring its taboo meaning, thus making it an in joke.

RCH is commonly used in the construction industry for cutting a small amount from a board. Hence at construction sites you will often hear..."hey Carl, I need an RCH taken off this board". Sometimes (again on construction sites) you will hear workers confusing RCH with RCW (red cunt whore) because many construction workers have difficulty spelling and forget the "w" is silent. This will often cause RCH to be mistaken with RCW and the phrase "Hey Bill, I had an RCH last night, you want her number" to be used quite often. It is highly recommended that the use of "RCH" (and RCW) be restricted to construction sites and foreign countries where english is not understood very well.
