Project: Jan Term Brochure
Patron: tesm
Medium: QuarkXPress 5.0
Status: Draft 2.0
Deadline: Wedneday

The jan brochure is bubbling along. After much unfortunate time crunch problems (other people's time crunch problems) we are now going with the standard interterm brochure layout. Though lacking pazazah, it gets the job done, which is to convey a lot of information in over 10pt size. We are slowly starting to impliment some study of what type of people are becoming students of interterms so we can start streamlining what TEEM is spending money one to advertise. After this brochure, I hope to start really hammering out a marketing game plan for them that will reach their audience. For example, if 80% of their incoming students are retirees; lets go find some more retirees to advertise to.

I've taken them in the direction of the Seed and Harvest green, which is also the pantone color I made the catalog. Safe S&H Green. It can be classy, it is medium toned, and can easily replace the strange poop brown color in the reader's memory.

"No you did not see that color. You saw safe and happy green, remember? You like the happy green."

I think when the brown/green color was initially chosen there was an edginess to it, but without a supporting color palette that color has become unanchored. I don't think anyone knows how to use it anymore. So we are going to try and move away from it. Since the players could not agree on a single palette, I am just trying to sell the one color I know we can all agree on... namely green.

Everything else about the design is straight forward. I hope to build my first dualtone photo for the front cover by editing the channels in photoshop. DS showed me how to do this on the DAS brochure, but this will be my first solo flight. Basically you create 2 separate channels for two separate inks, in this case Green and Black. It's much more production side of print, which I have some grasp of, but sort of in the same way I grasp a car engine. Theoretically.

I'm also (man)handling the printers this time, just to try and cut down on turn around time. Happily, since the project had my full attention, I was able to get the printer rep on the project last week, which means we have all the quotes this week. Prices are about what I thought they would be, print is just more expensive then it should be.

And remember, you like the green.
