Got the copy-edited ms. of ABSENT FRIENDS today. Yellow post-its and red pencil from the copy editor, and plain lead pencil from my editor. In this case the copy-edited ms. is also the line-edited, though that's not always true. Looks very discouraging, but a copy-edited ms. always does. It's due back on the 21st, which I think I can make. Will report tomorrow after I get a good look at it.
