Entry # 473

"The Slush God" is otherwise known and John Joseph Adams, the slush reader for The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, one of the premier mags in the Spec-fiction community. And if he said, "Don't do this," then you don't do this.

Also, no padded envelopes that spit gray wads of allergy provoking packing material at the slush reader, nor stories written in crayon nor cover letters in the form of a jigsaw puzzle that the editor must put together. Do not send the editors death threats or whine when you're rejected.

It's not hard to submit stories correctly, really. But I'm always amazed by the things I hear about slush, and the little devices people use to get their stories noticed. Oh, they'll get noticed, all right, just not in a good way.

Me? I've just got to keep striving for #14.
