There's a new implant that make take the world by storm . . . or maybe not, at least until all the bugs get worked out. I'm talking about fingertip magnets, of course, which bestow upon their implantees a "sixth sense" of sorts, that allows the bearer to feel electromagnetic pulses, electricity, and disc drives, when the magnet moves in their vicinity, brushing against the nerves in the ring finger.

According to this article, via Boing Boing, these magnets won't erase credit cards or discs, or set off metal detectors, even though you might touch such things. The procedure to get one of these magnets is not painless, nor does it last for long, apparently; just over a month or two, before the magnet's silicon sheath breaks down and the magnet breaks apart.

But don't let that stop you! At least it has more interesting/pragmatic side effects than implanting silicone, teflon or steel under your skin because you want to look like a creature from Star Trek.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
