The other possibility . . .

A third idea (other than building "up" or "elsewhere") is to build off the backside of the house. What's there now is an atrium filled with Wandering Jew that the cats love, but we don't get much use of it. The water heater is back there, but could be walled off from the atrium, which could then be removed in its entirety, and no one (human) would cry about it. If we build an addition instead of a separate structure "Out There in the Back Forty", we don't have to worry about getting sewer and electricity and gas out to it, and there'll be the whole, unscathed, Back Forty to till and plant to our hearts' content, and no greenhouse to move.

Two out of three* Contractor Guys (who had appointments yesterday) agree. They'll be drawing up plans with architects and stuff, and we should know how much this gem'll cost us in a week or two.

In the meantime, much moola is coming back from the government from overpaid taxes, the first time we've had refunds from State and Feds since we got married six years ago. Yay, moola!

*The third (same as here) was a no show. I guess they don't want our money.
