Once More, with Feeling

Here we go again.

The US Treasury is going to release dollar coins (again), but are not going to use them to replace the dollar bill, and yet are saying it can save hundreds of millions of dollars in printing costs. I suppose the operative word here is "can," as it these coins "can" save millions of dollars, but they won't, not unless they take dollar bills off the market and cease to produce them. Otherwise, there's no need for people to get used to the new coin, or to even try it out as more than an oddity.

One new tactic: none of these coins will have feminists on them, or women with hard to pronounce names. Nope, it's men, men, men, all the way. But will it make that big a difference? They'll be collectables, sure, but unless people are forced to use 'em, will they get any more use than the last two attempts?

Survey says?
