Worm Food

The past few days, the sidewalks and parking lots at work have been slick with smeared worm guts. It's been raining an awful lot lately, see, and the worms come out of the woodwork . . . er, the mud, and crawl all over the place. I got to wondering, fer Ghu's sake, why? It can't be good for perpetuation of the species, I thought, for them to expose their soft bellies to the constant crush of human feet.

Apparently, there's quite a debate over why worms are everywhere topside after it rains heavily, with some scientists coming down on the side of "they need to breathe," and some with, "this is the best time for the perpetuatin' the species thang."

Who knew?
