2005-05-11 9:28 PM life in the nation's capital I was inside one of the buildings on the National Cathedral grounds today when a few of my colleagues came running inside. Seemed they wanted to check CNN.com to find out why a fighter jet had just flown overhead.
I shrugged and said, "It's DC." Later I heard the news. See, here's what tickles me about this: The Vice President was inside the White House: evacuated. The First Lady was inside the White House: evacuated. Former First Lady Nancy Reagan was visiting with her: evacuated. Congressional leaders and Supreme Court Justices were evacuated; Nancy Pelosi was pulled out of her shoes. Meanwhile, the President of the United States was [wait for it...] riding his bicycle in Maryland. At noon. On a Wednesday. I don't get political on this blog very often, if ever, but darnit, I like my commanders-in-chief to be type A workaholics, chained to their desks, not tooling around the burbs in the middle of the day. I want my prez under a doctor's watchful eye due to the elevated blood pressure from the enormous stress of the job. He better be bound for a bypass after leaving office. That's what we pay him for.
