pithy bits and the revgal friday five

We were told by the preschool teachers to have the kids bring valentines today, with only their own names on them.

I follow instructions.

Other moms taped candy to the valentines, or included gift certificates for ice cream cones, or assembled elaborate goodie bags with chocolate and trinkets inside.

They did not follow instructions! Or, they surpassed the instructions or something!

Signed,
The Slacker Mom

The valentine C made at school:
I love Mommy because I like to play with her.
If I could give her anything in the world I would buy her wrapping paper.

I love Daddy because he warms me up some dinner.
If I could give him anything in the world I would buy him butter.

The RevGal Friday Five:
1. How do you say goodbye to someone you will see again soon?
Take care.

2. What is your favorite foreign word for "goodbye?"
Definitely the fake German:
Our feet are the same!
[response] Shoes!

Just kidding.
Adios, or vaya con Dios.

3. Have you ever planned a special farewell for someone, or had one planned for you?
When I left the church in Houston to go to seminary, they gave me a lovely reception... served Moeller's petit fours, the most wonderful confection on the planet. It was wonderful. They also gave me the 4-volume Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible. ChicagoRev coveted ;-)

When I was in seminary, I was co-chair of the women's group. We did a farewell reception for the graduating senior women, and for Awesome Church History Prof who was retiring. She was the first woman hired by the place, and at the time her appointment was... controversial, to say the least. In some ways she was run up the flagpole. But she's a tough old dame, and classy as they come.
We did a ritual where the seniors shared "I celebrate..." and "I await..." statements. She looked around at all of us and said, "I celebrate sheer numbers."

4. What is the hardest goodbye you have had to say?
Hmm, probably when I was in high school, my brothers went to live in Houston with my dad and stepmom while my sister and I stayed in Dallas with my mom.
I'm no good at goodbye. Ask ChaplainMom. Whenever we have a CG weekend I start getting pissy on the last day because it's time to go home.

5. What is the most romantic goodbye you have seen in a movie?
This counts as romantic in the broadest sense of the word, but, the end of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.
