random non-violent dots regarding life

(aka no bullets.)

• Last night I hit the wall rather badly, when I realized that juggling the divine miss m while working means that I’m working two full-time jobs simultaneously. It was not a pretty scene. I have not had more than 4 non-working, non-sleeping hours all to myself since the CGs were here in March and we went out. And come to think of it, that was hilarious fun but not time to myself either. I'd have to go back to November or December for that. Not Good. We will rectify this.

• On the upside, we finally back into our family routine that had been topsy-turvy since my trip the family visit. R and I went to dinner Sunday night and saw the X-men movie. I enjoyed it very much. He enjoyed it too but felt the plot had a certain committee-assembled feel to it.

• Teething is a bitch—miss m has been Jekyll and Hyde these days. She’s sleeping OK at night, but waking early and napping poorly. We are also transitioning to her own room which I’m sure doesn’t help. Right now the crib has such prime real estate for rolling over, but then she gets ticked off being there. Finally last night she realized that she could actually put her head down rather than persist in the pushup position (duh, kid!) and was asleep within minutes.

• Little she-who-is attended a birthday party over the weekend. It was an unstructured backyard thing with minimal Dora decorations, a swingset, and a kid-sized habittrail made out of big Maytag boxes and duct tape. Most excellent.
It was fun to watch her with other kids. She played with them some, then went off and played solo too. Her preschool teacher had told us that she was neither a leader nor a follower, just one who did her own thing, and I saw that there. She was not intimidated by the others, nor did she insist that they do things her way.

I also realized watching her that the depth of her right dimple is directly proportional to the amount of fun she is having. Teeter-totter and spinning around on the swing=deep dimple fun.

• Earlier that day, during worship, she convinced MaDear that she didn’t want to attend the program for three- and four-year olds because she was “feeling sick.” (She’s had a cough.) She told me about this at lunch and I deadpanned, “Oh, I’m sorry you’re feeling sick, I guess I’ll have to call M’s mom and tell them you won’t be at the birthday party.”

She responded, “I was PRETEND sick!”

• I haven’t found much time to write lately, aside from the sermon-writing. Must work on this. I suppose that will take care of itself to some extent, since I’ve been asked to do some more writing on the lectionary and the deadlines are in August and November.
