pre-vacation crazies

Last night was a meeting of National Cranky-pants Presbytery. Pretty uneventful, except we heard from our commissioners to General Assembly, and I asked a question/comment for the first time in almost three years of being a member of this presbytery. I'm pretty sick of talking about the big issues, so I asked how the commissioners experienced the fishbowl aspect of GA--specifically with the prevalence of bloggers, who provided instant, first-hand accounts to the world at large, with a fair amount of editorializing. This editorializing got at times rancorous and personal, and I wondered how that affected their experience of the Assembly. Unfortunately as an extravert I was still formulating the question as I was saying it so it may not have been as razor-sharp as I would have hoped. I suppose as well that a blogger asking about blogging is the equivalent of hiding in plain sight.

On my way back to my seat I slipped on some rainwater that had been tracked in and almost fell square on my butt.

I believe it's in Charlotte's Web, my favorite book from childhood, that humble is defined as "not proud" and "near the ground." I suppose I was both last night.

R and I are busy as beavers getting ready to drive to Maine tomorrow and Friday. I have booked two kid-free hours a day for napping, reading and writing. Supposedly we will have DSL--R had it installed in case of work catastrophes. The long-term goal is for him to be able to take a vacation and leave it all behind, but until that happens, it will be less stressful for him to be able to dispatch minor issues with ease than to just ignore them. I may or may not blog from there.

I am also looking forward to at least two blog meetups on the way.

M is stirring...
