monday dots

  • Spent the weekend on retreat with the twenties and thirties group from church. We were in a large house on a lake, and we did very little. My head of staff would be appalled with me for not planning something structured, but 1) it's not really my role with that group and 2) people didn't seem to want that. So, it was a sabbath retreat. And we didn't talk about sabbath, we did sabbath, young adult style. We napped. Read. Hot-tubbed. Ate. Good times.

  • One weekend incident: little she-who-is received three stings when she picked up a nest that had been abandoned by all but one nasty wasp. She ran crying/screaming for the house where R & I were, and since I had never heard that sound come out of her I wasn't sure at first whether she was laughing or really crying.

She was a trooper--let R put ice on it, and as she started to calm down she said, "[sniff]... I think... [sniff] a marshmallow... [sniff, gasp] would make it better... [sniff]"

    Always the negotiator.

  • There was another little girl there who is a year younger than C, and they had a great time together. I realized that C has very little opportunity to play with kids who are younger than she is--she is the youngest child in her preschool class. She has a great time there but tends to follow along, or do her own thing, but not lead. She seemed to enjoy suggesting a game and having her younger companion happily comply.

With Sunday School as it's structured right now she can go either to the 3s class or the 4s class, and I think we'll keep her with the 3s for this reason.

  • The divine miss m had a really good time too but her sleep schedule got really wonky. She took long naps during the day and woke often at night. I think she is outgrowing her pack and play. Yikes, what's the alternative when we travel?
