tasting menu

Take it from a couple of wanna-be foodies... When you're at a wonderful restaurant and can't decide among the menu items, and the chef offers a tasting menu, get it.

...splash of onion soup with a thimble-sized parmesan biscuit

...homemade sourdough with roasted garlic and olive tapenade

...crab salad on couscous with marinated julienne cucumbers

...caramelized scallop with homemade mushroom ravioli and field greens

...paella

...pan-roasted hawaiian escolar with sweet onion-dijon soubise, asparagus, chick-pea gnocchi, herb vinaigrette

...tender veal with beet greens
[this was when we thought, OK, that was the red meat, so we're done... only to have the waiter bring us another knife and fork! yow!]

...prime beef "a la James Beard" with mashed potatoes

...chocolate 6 ways:
homemade chocolate raisin ice cream
chocolate-pistachio truffle
chocolate terrine with dried cherries
cannolli
flourless chocolate cake
warm chocolate chip cookies

You know what? That doesn't do it justice. Oh well.

We also stayed in the world's only B&B dedicated to the TV show "Bewitched." We walked on the boardwalk, sat and read in a coffeeshop, and recounted memories of many other great anniversary celebrations, to which this trip will be happily added.
