my day in dots

  • The divine miss m went back to daycare today. She squealed with joy when she got there, and had a great day, except this morning while the caregiver's back was turned she climbed onto the Lego table, lost her footing and face-planted on a toy. So she has a handsome scrape on her right eyelid. She's plucky and lucky--a half inch the wrong way and she'd probably be sporting an eye patch right now. As it is, she'll have a good shiner, and just in time for Christmas pictures on Friday.

The divine miss m is so NOT little she-who-is.

  • She's also working on the bottom molars now. Hasn't this girl suffered enough for the moment?

  • Today we celebrate the arrival of California CG's daughter, born this morning. When CCG was first pregnant, I shared the news with little she-who-is and said, "Do you think she will have a boy or girl?" and she said "Girl." I said, "What do you think her name should be?" and she said, "Pancho."

    So, happy birthday to Pancho.

  • This morning was the live nativity at the preschool. I love the way they do it. Kids come in some simple costume and clump together with other kids playing the same part. So we had 15 Marys piling their dolls into the manger.

Little she-who-is wanted to be Mary all weekend, but this morning woke up wanting to be an angel. So we got to church early and raided the costume closet. (Being a PK has to have some advantages.) We found a gold tinsel halo, white robe with gold stars on it, and real cardboard wings covered in feathers. She looked mighty pleased with herself.

I let her take the costume home for one night so she could play in it after dinner, and just as we were about to play "Mary and the Angel" (a seasonal favorite) together, she spilled milk all down the front. It's not washable, so we had her take it off so we could wash it the best we could. She was heartbroken.

I thought about giving her an extension until Wednesday, but then decided to see what she'd do. She cried big crocodile tears for quite some time--"My magic is gone!"

But I was proud of her--she decided she could be an angel in street clothes.
